Why is click-through rate (CTR) above 100%?

Answer

In the Analytics section, you might have noticed CTR of a few queries can exceed 100%.

If an end-user searches for a term, e.g. “blog”, and using right-click to open 2 search results in different tabs or windows then the CTR for that term will be 200% in that session.

If the user clicks on a search result, and then uses the back button to return to the search results page, and then clicks on another result, it will not be recorded as the two clicks. This is because when the user clicks back, a new session is recorded.
